Catherine Murray Plowman, 68, died Wednesday at her Pebble Beach home after a long illness. Born Aug. 15, 1920, in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Plowman had been a Pebble Beach resident since 1960.

A secretary with the Pacific Grove United School District, she was secretary to the principal of Pacific Grove High School when she retired in 1979. She was a member of St. Angela’s Catholic Church in Pacific Grove and a former member of the Children’s Home Society.

Mrs. Plowman is survived by her husband of 47 years, Edwin; a son, John of San Jose; two brothers, Guy Paul Murray of Brentwood, Md., and Donald Murray of Santa Fe, N.M., and three grandchildren. Another Son, Lt. James Plowman, a Navy aviator, was declared dead by the Navy in May 1974, nearly seven years after he was reported missing in action when his plane was shot down over North Vietnam in March 24, 1967.

Funeral services for Mrs. Plowman will be held at St. Angela’s Catholic Church next Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at El Carmelo Cemetery in Pacific Grove. The Paul Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests that any memorial contributions go to the American Cancer Society or to the Hospice of the Monterey Peninsula.
