January 19, 1999 FACULTY (1962-1969) & STAFF (30 years) Leith Edward Heyl (76) Monterey County Herald, CA Jan. 19, 1999 Leith Edward Heyl, a retired school administrator, died Tuesday at Monterey Convalescent Hospital. He was 76. Born July 9, 1922, in Laurel, Neb., he had lived in Pacific Grove for 37 years. Mr. Heyl served in the Marines in the South Pacific during World War II and retired in 1988 from the Naval Reserve after 30 years of service. He graduated from Hastings College in Nebraska, then earned a master’s degree in school administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Mr. Heyl worked for 30 years for the Pacific Grove Unified School District. He was a lifetime member of the California School Administrators association. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Delores; a son, Michael Heyl of San Luis Obispo; a daughter, Susan Tyler of El Dorado Hills; a brother, William Heyl of Whittier; and three grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church in Monterey. Burial will be private at El Carmelo Cemetery in Pacific Grove. The Paul Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests that any memorial contributions be sent to St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church, 52 Soledad Drive, Monterey 93940, or to the donor’s favorite charity.
